The Go as a River Cottage
The cottage is our home—a quiet, sacred, and spiritual place in a valley along the Tippecanoe River. It is a place of deep peace and presence, a spiritual refuge for us and the animals and people we welcome here.
Rodney’s late wife, Angelique Morehouse (Angie), passed away at the age of 54 after many years of living with paranoid schizophrenia. I never had the honor of meeting her, but through the stories lovingly shared by her mother and by Rodney, I’ve come to know her as a kind, gentle, and courageous soul. She had a deep love for animals, especially Labrador retrievers, and she spent much of her life caring for others. She was deeply loved by Rodney.
Angie longed to have children, but struggled with infertility. Knowing how much Rodney loved the river, she would often say to him, “I can’t give you children, but I can give you this place.”
Today, Rodney now has stepchildren and a granddaughter he helped raise from birth. That granddaughter is now rocked in Angie’s heart shaped chair and fishes next to her Poppy, just as Angie wanted.
As I write this, I sit at my desk watching the river flow steadily by. It is the same river that I grew up on. Both of my parents passed away while watching this same river flow. Time feels different here. There is presence. It feels like a different dimension—whole, safe, still. The feeling I have here is the same one I feel when I arrive at Magnolia Grove Monastery: like I am being held in my mother’s arms. Nothing to fix. Nothing to prove. Just be.
We have weaved Angie into every aspect of our life at the cottage. She is everywhere. I hear her laughter in the windchimes. I feel her presence beside Rodney as he stands on the dock and fishes. She is at peace.
The Go as a River Cottage is a place for healing. Healing for people. Healing for animals.
We look forward to sharing this sacred space with you.
